Therion (formerly Megatherion) is a Swedish symphonic metal band founded by Christofer Johnsson in 1987. The word "therion" comes from the Greek therion (θηρίον), meaning "Beast," i.e., that of the Christian Book of Revelation.[1][2] However, the band's name is a homage to the Celtic Frost album To Mega Therion.[3]
Beginning as a death metal band, they later turned to combining orchestral elements with their metal music, employing heavy use of choirs and classical musicians, not only as additions to, but also as integral parts of the composition. Therion is the first metal band with a fully live orchestra featured. It is also the band which originated, popularised and influenced[4] the symphonic metal genre, cited as "the most adventurous metal band at present".[5] Because of the extents they take in conducting their music, it has been dubbed as "Opera Metal".[citation needed]
Therion's music takes its themes from different mythologies, and is based on concepts ranging from occultism, magic and ancient traditions and writings. The majority of their lyrics are written by Thomas Karlsson, head and founder of the magical order Dragon Rouge, of which Johnsson is a member.[6] The band has seen many changes in line-up and style throughout its history.

Les Fleurs du Mal is the fifteenth full-length musical album by Therion. It was released on 28 september 2012 and will only be sold at concerts. It's an art project to celebrate the 25th annivarsy of the band. The album was financed by Christofer Johnsson.
On 14th February 2012 was announced the release of a new studio album for September 2012, followed up by the 25th Anniversary Tour (with the title "Flowers of Evil") was announced[22] On 2th September the new album, Les Fleurs Du Mal was announced available for pre-order from Therion Store. It wasn't released by Nuclear Blast, but by Christofer's own. For the tour, which contains 26 gigs through Europe a keyboardist was also foreseen. However, the tour had also a Latin American prequel in June, where the complete Secret Of The Runes album was played on every concerts.
On the 14th of September Christofer has posted a long statement on the band's website about their future plans. [23] It has contained a plans of a complete rock/metal opera, which doesn't only include music and lyrics, but also the scenery and costumes should be created by him. Due to this gigantic project no other studio albums and tours are planned for the future years until the completion and performance of this work. However, Snowy Shaw didn't want to be involved in this plans, and he decided to do his own projects in the future. But the statement didn't contain any information about, if Snowy would performance during the tour.
In this statement an "art project" of the band was also meant, containing beside music also other kind of arts. The music of this project was to be released on CD right before the start of the Anniversary Tour.
